Alicante is a City with more than Villas, Culture and Tradition

For something different why not book your VILLAS IN ALICANTE the Valencia region of Spain. This area is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the coast. Alicante is situated in a unique area with the mountains as a back drop and the sea in front giving it a picturesque setting. With its modern up to date harbour there are a number of cruise ships that visit this city on a regular basis.

If you are a historian this city has a lot to offer such as the Iglesia de Santa Maria a 15th century church the oldest edifice in Alicante. This church was once a Moorish mosque and close by is the town hall and a Monastery. Just five kilometres from the city centre is the Monastery de la Santa Faz which was built in 1752. As you can see there is a lot of history in this ancient town.

The most impressive attraction in Alicante is the castle of Santa Barbara which overshadows the town and harbour. This castle has protected the town for centuries more especially from the Barbary Pirates that raided this coastline for generations. Try and imagine the townsfolk running for cover when a pirate corsair pulled up into the harbour. While you are in the city pay a visit to the Gavina Place which is home to the Provincial Gallery with its collection of nineteenth century paintings.

Alicante is a city full of museums that trace its history back to a time long, long ago, a visit to these will give you an insight to its humble beginnings. The Archaeology Museum is a good place to start as it has a collection of artefacts from its medieval period. When you are finished with the museums the Cathedral of San Nicolas de Bari is close to the museum district and is well worth a visit if only for its architecture alone. There are other ancient attractions in the city just grab a guide book and make a list of those you would like to see.

Most people come to Spain for its beaches and nightlife, Alicante has this in abundance plus a lot more. For a start the club goers will fine the beach of San Juan is just the ticket. If its water sports you are interested in the venture over to the beaches of Almadraba and Albufereta. The beaches that are within easy reach of the city are Playa del Postiguet and Urbanova, these are considered to be the top beaches in the area.

If you are part of the young club set staying in your VILLAS IN ALICANTE the hot spot is centred on El Barrio, this area is full of pizza joints and bars. The area between El Sabio Street and Explanada is the ideal location for the more sophisticated set especially with the top class restaurants and little atmospheric bars. If you just want to spend a relaxing time then go for a stroll along the Explanada and stop at one of the open air cafes for a glass of wine and watch the sun as it slowly sinks over the horizon, what a way to end the day.
